Class Information for Winter 2018: GETTING PUBLISHED, with your first or next novel, 6 pm to 8 pm, Thursdays, March 15 and 22, Men's Club, Stampede Room (8064)

The publishing world has changed dramatically in the past decade and authors have more options than ever to get their first or next novel published. While there is no “easy” route to take, this workshop is designed to introduce writers to the major avenues available – traditional publishing and self-publishing. The workshop will span two sessions, each for two hours. The first session will treat traditional publishing and will address the key elements – writing a query letter and submitting a query, submitting a manuscript, finding an agent and/or publisher. The second session will treat self-publishing and will include those elements – differences between vanity publishing and real self-publishing, pitfalls to avoid, formatting a manuscript, choosing a printer and/or publisher. Both sessions will address marketing and creating a marketing plan. Even large traditional publishers insist their authors come prepared with a solid plan to sell their books on the world marketplace.

Additional Information: Gale Leach's first book, The Art of Pickleball, won the Arizona Book Award in 2007. This success spurred her to try fiction, a lifelong dream. In 2010 she established her own publishing company, Two Cats Press, and published her first novel, Bruce and the Road to Courage, a heroic fantasy for children, along with the books of several other authors. Gale added three more books to the "Bruce and Friends" series, all of which captured multiple awards, and is writing another. She also recently completed the first novel in a new YA epic fantasy series and is seeking an agent for traditional publishing. Besides her love of writing fiction, Gale enjoys singing and playing Celtic music. She lives in Arizona with her husband, two dogs, and one cat.
